Medicine Buddha Retreat 2017-11-29T11:55:46+00:00

7th – 14th April 2018

With Roy Sutherwood

This retreat offers the wonderful opportunity to explore and practice the Medicine Buddha sadhana as encouraged by Lama Zopa Rinpoche through a combination of daily sadhana practice sessions and visualisations of the deity, which acts as a powerful healing practice for body and mind as well as a method for developing shamatha and concentrated analysis.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche says:

“Reciting the Medicine Buddha mantra is so powerful, it is the same as reciting all the buddhas’ mantra. If you circumambulate the Medicine Buddha, you get the same merit as having circumambulated all the buddhas. If you make offerings to Medicine Buddha, you get the same merit as having made offerings to all the buddhas. If you recite the Seven Medicine Buddha names and recite the Medicine Buddha mantra it fulfills all your wishes and prayers. It is so incredibly powerful. Also, all your negative karma is purified. All sicknesses and spirit harms are quickly pacified.”

The retreat will include the chance to develop a morning daily practice of various prayers as well as gentle breathing techniques and movement exercises to support the body as it becomes more accustomed to meditational tantric practices. There will also be opportunities to discuss various dharma topics such as the Medicine Buddha practice and personal time with the retreat leader if required.

This is a precious opportunity to explore a powerful Kriya Tantra practice and become more familiar with tantra in general with someone strongly connected to the deity, especially if you or someone you know are facing health obstacles.

Please arrive at Land of Joy by 4pm on the first day to ensure you can attend the first session. The retreat will end after lunch on the final day (around 2pm)

Those attending should have taken refuge in the Triple Gem.

Roy has been meditating for most of his life. Now at the time of retirement, having resigned from his most recent post as Director of Jamyang Buddhist Centre, London, Roy is highly qualified to lead this retreat. He has studied under masters of Zen, Dzogchen, Mahamudra, Madhyamika and Samatha, and for many years has led the highly acclaimed Introduction to Buddhist Meditation programme at Jamyang London, which he designed.
