About the Retreat

Investigate what “samsara” is and how we are stuck in it. Find out what “nirvana” is and how to achieve it. Develop the determination to be free from suffering and empower yourself with practical tools to deal with and eliminate disturbing emotions forever.

According to Buddhism, the best way to deal with difficult emotions is to acknowledge when they arise in our minds then work on transforming the state of mind they create into something positive. We can then avoid harming others and ourselves.

This retreat will include an explanation of the mind and emotions as well as introducing meditations for working on individual emotions in order to transform the mind to work towards achieving genuine peace and happiness.

Topics Covered:

  • Explanations of the mind and emotions
  • General methods for dealing with difficult emotions

  • How to work with specific emotions

  • What contributes to the development of disturbing emotions

About the Retreat

Land of Joy’s large and varied grounds have much become a place for nature to thrive and a haven for a variety of wildlife to live. Connecting with this kind of nature gifts us the opportunity to ground ourselves in our inner and outer environment. While helping Land of Joy maintain their precious grounds for the wildlife who live there and those who visit, you can become aware of how being in nature effects our body and mind, allowing us to become aware of what is happening within ourselves and release any stress we are holding.

Lou Beaumont will be joining Pauline Barber on this retreat to share gentle sessions of body/mind movement and meditation in conjunction with our exploration of nature and projects in the woodland. We hope to explore and bring a sense of connection between the nature of the woods and the nature of our body and mind that interacts with the environment. Lou has run retreats on pranayama, chi gong and meditation for us at LOJ and has also worked a small holding for many years so will be at hand to assist Pauline in any way she can.

Pauline and Lou will share their wealth of knowledge about the species found in our grounds, ongoing woodland projects, movement exercises and answer any questions you may have.

About the Leaders

Pauline has volunteered at Land of Joy for 6 years and is currently the Woodland and Wildlife Manager. I was introduced to Tibetan Buddhism in 2002 and follow HH the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s teachings.

Her professional wildlife background has been working for the UK statutory nature conservation organisations in England, Scotland and Wales and have volunteered for a number of wildlife trusts and the Bat Conservation Trust for the last 30 years.

Lou Beaumont began working with body mind and spirit in the late 1960’s, looking for ways to connect with each other with more kindness and to tread gently on the planet. Her best friends all these years have been hatha yoga, pranayama and tai chi. Using physical movement as a basis to experience our whole being our true energy, a foundation for exploring the more subtle body and the mind. This combined with spiritual study, meditation and lots of gardening in remote places, all created possible pathways to more peaceful ways to benefit ourselves, others and our planet.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Boost your donations by 25% at no cost to you! A Gift Aid declaration allows us to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I confirm I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Land of Joy will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When we receive a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
