How We Create Our Own Reality – Home Study Online Retreat

With Geshe Namdak: 16th – 21st May 2020

Through understanding conventional reality, we can come to know how the ignorance of grasping at an inherent world gives rise to destructive emotions, therefore producing the twelve links of suffering in samsara. By correctly analysing the ultimate reality, we can generate the wisdom which eliminates this ignorance and therefore leads us to the bliss of nirvana and enlightenment.

During this course Geshe Namdak shares his deep knowledge in a practical way through supportive teaching, meditation and Q&A sessions, offering us a chance to develop a deeper understanding of the twelve links of dependent origination and how they effect our lives. The recordings of the course are complimented by additional resources Geshe La kindly provided before the course began, including audio recordings of his previous ‘Karma and the Wheel of Life’ course.

About Geshe Namdak

Venerable Geshe Tenzin Namdak first worked as an environmental researcher after graduating in hydrology. He then started studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute in The Netherlands in 1993 and took ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama before engaging in his formal studies in Buddhist philosophy and psychology at Sera Jey Monastic University, South India, in 1997.

He completed the entire twenty-year Geshe program at Sera Jey in 2017 followed by the traditional one-year Vajrayana study programme at Gyume Tantric College in January 2019, the first Westerner to do so.

He has received a great number of teachings from His Holiness Dalai Lama and many other highly respected teachers and lineage masters, has done many retreats and is an experienced teacher in practical and philosophical aspects of Buddhism that he teaches with great clarity and a good sense of humour.

Study Resources

Geshe Namdak’s ‘Karma and the Wheel of Life’ audio recordings and ‘Twelve Links of Interdependent Origination’ video have been generously offered by him as pre-course reading/watching to help set the context and increase the benefit gained from his teachings on how we create our own reality.

As well as the audio and video recordings, Geshe La has also provided some additional reading material including an overview of the twelve links of dependent origination and two chapters of Nagarjuna’s Fundamental Wisdom on the twelve links of dependent origination and emptiness. These can be found below the other audio and video files.

Geshela reminds us of how HH Dalai Lama often teaches these topics in India and so believes they are important chapters for students to become familiar with.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Boost your donations by 25% at no cost to you! A Gift Aid declaration allows us to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I confirm I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Land of Joy will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When we receive a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
