About the Retreat

Aimed at all levels, Liza’s ‘Tasting “Kum Nye”: Tibetan Yoga, Massage, and Visualisation’ course is meant as an introduction to a series of Tibetan yoga exercises and massage techniques that will guide participants on a journey to deep relaxation. Indeed, a level of relaxation that, as the founder of the Nyingma Institute, Tarthang Tulku, describes it, “has a vital and lasting quality greater than the feeling of well-being”.

Drawing on the sacred symbolism of Tibetan Buddhist iconography, the course is designed to enrich participant’s understanding of “Kum Nye” exercises with visualisation techniques. After all, “Kum Nye” is as much a yoga of the mind as it is the body. Suitable for beginners and experienced yogis alike, the course upholds Tarthang Tulku’s teachings that there is no one or ‘right’ way to perform the exercises.

You do not need to be able to touch your toes, but you do need to be able to touch the feelings and sensations that will arise in your body from this simple, but no less profound, form of yoga.

Yoga mats, meditation cushions and chairs will be provided but, by all means, bring your own.

About the Teacher

Dr Liza Weber is a Buddhist practitioner who specialises in “Kum Nye” Tibetan yoga and
healing practices, as well as the art of Tibetan Buddhist iconography.

Having completed the Nyingma Institute Kum Nye Teacher Training Programme, and trained under the master thangka painter, Andy Weber, Liza brings together her knowledge and experience of sacred
movement and imagery to deliver classes and courses that, with playful curiosity, explore the
wellspring of the “energy body”.

Her teaching is motivated by the wish to remind yoga of its roots as an aid for meditation, first and foremost, and the joy to be discovered therein.

A Way to Say Thank You

To Land of Joy…

Our generosity model means we do not charge for any teachings, accommodation or food. We are therefore 100% dependant on donations to help us cover our £90,000 a year running costs.

You are therefore invited to give what you can as a thank you for the organisation and hosting of the retreat, including the food and accommodation provided if you stayed onsite.

You may also like to make a regular contribution to the centre by becoming a Branch of Joy. This kind of support gifts us a steady and ongoing income, which in turn provides the confidence and means for us to continue to flourish for many years to come.

Everything given will ensure Land of Joy continues to be offered as a precious place for retreat.

To The Teacher…

Teachers and retreat leaders practice generosity by freely offering their time to Land of Joy. We cover their travel expenses but do not pay them for the teachings they give.

You are therefore invited to make an offering to the teacher as a thank you for the time and knowledge they share.

To The Volunteers…

Our retreats are supported by our wonderful team of volunteers, some of whom you will meet during your time at the centre. Those who live onsite offer their time, expertise and dedication in return for food and accommodation. They do not receive a wage or stipend. Unfortunately, we are only able to accept offerings for them in cash, so if you would like to thank them for their service, please do so by bringing cash with you to the centre and placing it in the volunteer collection pot.
