Land of Joy is an FPMT retreat centre in the beautiful Northumberland National Park surrounded by stunning landscapes and a national dark skies area. We are in a semi-rural and peaceful location, four miles from Bellingham and 20 miles from Hexham. As well as running a busy retreat programme throughout the year we grow our own fresh produce and are working to maintain & restore our 40 acres of woodland and outhouses within the estate.
The centre is run by close knit team within a friendly and collaborative environment. If you don’t live locally you will live with the rest of the team in the main house at Land of Joy. You will primarily work in one area, but a willingness to help other departments when needed is necessary, so an open, friendly and patient attitude is essential. Volunteering with us is a wonderful opportunity to offer service in a peaceful and beautiful setting. Land of Joy seeks committed people to form a dedicated team who will embrace the challenges that working in a residential retreat centre brings.
Team members are given a single room, three vegetarian meals a day and two days off a week as thanks for offering service 6-8 hours a day, five days a week. They should be willing to live according to the Buddhist Five Precepts, and have a respect for our spiritual environment.
