Seven Point Mind Training: Practicing from the Heart

With Paula Chichester: 26th – 30th September 2019

Seven Point Mind Training is the classic and inspiring Mahayana Buddhist Text written by the 11th Century Kadampa Master, Geshe Chekawa. Still totally relevant to modern busy life, this teaching contains easy-to-understand instructions on cultivating understanding of emptiness and activating compassion. It also presents very helpful slogans to guide bodhisattva action in daily life. This is a very practical series of “tried and true” advices and contemplations for transforming the life into pure dharma, where peace and kindness prevail.

Ton Len, the practice of giving and taking, the heart of this teaching, will be the focus of this experiential approach to the study of mind training.

A favorite with many comtemporary masters, there are many English versions available in print. We will use the translation found in the book: ‘Advice from a Spiritual Friend’, which is a commentary by Lama Yeshe’s guru, Geshe Rabten. It is one of the very first books published by Wisdom Publications and is recommended reading for the retreat

The retreat consisted of guided meditations on the topics, informal talks, discussions and chi gong for the mind and body.

About Paula

Paula began her studies of Buddhism when she was 14 at Berkeley High School in California where she realized liberating delusion was key to healing our planet and its inhabitants. The focus on systems theory and ecology at university prepared her to apply the whole body/mind/culture/ environment to this ancient contemplative discipline of human transformation.

As a dancer, healer, singer, student of psychology and ecology, she brings all these elements into the understanding of the whole person and how tantra works in this greater context – while preserving the classical format of Lama Tsong Khapa’s ear-whispered lineage.

Inspired by the example of the meditators in Dharamsala and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, she devoted the last 34 years to following the guidance those she calls her awesome, amazing teachers, primarily Lama Thubten Yeshe, Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche and Kyabje Ribur Rinpoche. — which included 24 years preparing for and completing long retreats — 2 of which were 4 year solitary great maha-anuttara yoga retreats.

She studies with teachers from all 4 schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Her goal in life has been steady since childhood: to realize Mahamudra and do all she can to bring peace and environmental justice to our world.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Boost your donations by 25% at no cost to you! A Gift Aid declaration allows us to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I confirm I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Land of Joy will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When we receive a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
