An Introduction to Tantra: Getting to Know Chenresig

With Lou Beaumont: 17th – 18th April 2021

How do we develop our compassion from just a well intentioned wish to something that can really be of benefit to others?
There are many different methods to do this in Buddhism, one of the most effective being Tantra and more specifically the practice of the buddha of compassion, Chenresig.

This weekend will explore how tantra works, why it is so powerful and effective. Throughout the course we can come closer to the deity and therefore our own compassionate true nature.

We will use the Chenresig sadhana, which is perfect for learning the foundations of Buddhist practice, discussion, breathing exercises and simple chi gong movement to connect with the subtle energies in our bodies, so that we can begin to experience the sadhana at its deepest level. It is here that we truly connect with Tantric practice to train the mind with joy and ease and where its power can be harnessed for transformation.

About Lou

Lou has been practising and studying buddhism for many years and was fortunate to connect very early on with Chenrezig, the deity, who in our system represents great compassion which is at the very heart of our practice.Lou began her spiritual journey practising Hatha Yoga & was a teacher for some years. While on a pranayama retreat held at a Buddhist retreat centre she connected with Buddhism & the teachings.

A solitary at home practitioner for many years until she joined the FPMT, first at the Leeds centre attending teachings, studying online & later doing retreats & some voluntary work with us at Land of Joy. Here she began assisting Paula Chichester on some retreats until we finally encouraged her to lead one of her own! Lou tries to bring together mind and body practice with sutra study & meditation which is all at the heart of her tantra practice.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Boost your donations by 25% at no cost to you! A Gift Aid declaration allows us to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I confirm I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Land of Joy will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When we receive a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
